About Klar Cite

Twenty years of helping manufacturers earn credentials, as a verifier, practitioner and company owner, I’ve seen how little of that work reaches the person who signs the specification and decides what products to use. Months and years of diligent work can be reduced to a logo and an expiry date. The clauses, thresholds, evidence and audit behind it sit in a document that specifier has rarely read and often cannot find.

Klar Cite opens the credentials on building products to the clauses behind them. For each certification, ecolabel and declaration it holds, you can read what it actually asks of a product, cited to the document and page, and see which rating tools and procurement policies accept it.

It’s built for the people who creates the specifications and decides what products we build with, and for the manufacturers who have to show what their credentials stand for. Reading the register is free and needs no account.

My aim is to connect the evidence, make it findable, citable and checkable. It is also why the register is slow and fussy about some things that might look small, like page numbers:

  • Everything is cited. Each requirement carries the document, version and page it came from, so you can check it yourself rather than take my word for it.
  • A blank says “not recorded”. It never says “none”. A document being silent on something is not the same as the scheme not requiring it, and the register won’t pretend otherwise.
  • No scores, no rankings. Which credential suits a project is a judgement call, and that call stays with you (and, if you want help with it, with a person, not a number).
  • Paying doesn’t buy a better record. Manufacturers pay to publish and look after their own product pages. That never changes what the register records about a credential, and no page sits higher for having paid.

Klar Cite is run by me, Jonas Bengtsson, based in Sydney. My background is that I started Edge Impact with two colleagues in 2008, was CEO from 2016, and we sold to RSK Group in 2024, by then more than 100 people across Australia, New Zealand, Chile and the US. Most of what I know about building a business came from learning on the job.

These days I work independently through Klar Advisory. Most weeks that means verifying EPDs and reviewing LCA and carbon work, and the rest is advisory and board work, including the steering committee of the UNEP Life Cycle Initiative and EPD Australasia’s Technical Advisory Group (where I was Vice Chair for twelve years).

I’m an approved EPD verifier and a certified LCA practitioner, so several of the programmes in this register are ones I work in professionally. No verification, consulting or advisory engagement has any bearing on what the register records or how it’s ordered. If you think a reading is wrong, please tell me and I will look at it, the document always wins over the register.

Klar Cite is run by Klar Advisory Pty Ltd (ABN 32 698 209 871) in Sydney. The register is rebuilt from the source documents with each release, and every change between releases is listed.
